**NUMBER
ONE** "Into You," Fabulous feat. Tamia |
4 |
1(1) |
8/23/03 |
| Comments: Well, as I head back to school, my charts get a bit of a shake up! Coming from nowhere, Fabulous takes the number one spot this week. Only a few rap songs have made my chart, and only a rare few have made it to number one. Since starting my charts in 1997, only four "rap" songs (songs that feature spoken word in them) have made it to the summit. The first was "Do For Love" by 2 Pac back in 1998. The second came in 2001 with "Butterfly" by Crazytown. "Lazy" by X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne really isn't a rap song, but it does have spoken word it in. That was the number one song of last year. And finally, Crazytown hit number one again at the end of last year with "Drowning." What really does it for me with this track is the vocal so Tamia, and the songs smooth edge. I can just picture driving downtown on a warm saturday night listening to this. During this time of year, it is exactly the song I want to hear to relieve any stress. "Into You" marks the tenth song to reach the summit in 2003. At this time last year, we were already on song 17. It was also at about this time last year that my charts had a rapid turnover. Only time will tell if this trend happens again this year. This week sees four debuts. J Lo makes this week's biggest debut and finds herself in the top 10 for the first time since last year. The first three singles from her latest album have not done that well. In fact, the first two didn't chart, and the third "I'm Glad," only made the top 30. This ballad, though VERY corny, is good enough to give her another hit. Dance act India finally debut this week with "Seduce Me Now." The former #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart has bubbled under for a while due to the fact that I still don't have a high quality recording of it. If I can get one, this song might do much better. The Stereophonics make their chart debut with "Maybe Tomorrow." "Have A Nice Day" was one of my favorites in 2001 and this one is not quite as good, but could fare well on my chart. Finally, the massively popular (at least in the UK) single from XTM finally charts here. I could only resist those grooving dance synths for so long before I had to chart it. In addition to four debuts this week, we also have four reentries. This means that 8 songs fall off the chart this week, including four long running songs. Because of this, the longevity champ award this week goes to David Sneddon with 16 weeks. This is the first time in a while that a song with under 20 weeks has had this award. Finally, Javine pulls a 180 from last week and earns biggest mover award, while Jason Nevins earns biggest faller award. Ok, time's up for now. That's all for this week ... until next week .... |
