COMMENTS ON THIS WEEKS CHARTS
This has been one BUSY week. Now that I am finally caught up on my charts I can feel free to write a little bit more. I have not really been downloading a lot this week, probably because my computer is out of hard drive space ... oops! I guess I will need to burn some stuff to CD. In the meantime though, my copy of NOW 52 arrived and of course this will always benefit some songs and bring my attention to others I would have never known of otherwise. In fact, my two biggest hits of the year were both discovered on NOW CD's (Iio's Rapture and X-Press 2's Lazy). There are eight new songs on the chart this week and a re-entry; the most so far this year. I said goodbye to a lot of long charting songs this week in one big swoop. My top 2 debuts this week were actually not on the NOW CD suprisingly. We have had a lot of turnover at the top in the past few weeks, but it seems that it is a trend to have a long standing number one, followed by a bunch of quick runs at the top. This week the biggest mover award is again granted to two songs: Aurora's Dreaming (which is finally starting to get somewhere with me!) and Jennifer Paige's cover of Stranded (repeat last parentheeses!). They both move up 10 spots. Marc Anthony makes an 18 spot plunge this week to number 33 with I Need You, taking this week's biggest faller award. X-Press 2 almost won that award, falling back 16 spots in the song's 17th week. If they can last one more week they will have the longest chart run of the year so far. Cher recently had a 17 week chart run with Alive Again. I will be calculating my top 40 songs for the year so far again soon, so get ready!
NEW ON THE CHARTS
01 - GHOSTS - Dirty Vegas The second single of the year from this British act is by far superior Day Go By, which could only muster a number 37 chart placing earlier this year. DGB is a good song, but overload quickly ended any chances the song could have. Ghosts, on the otherhand is a EXCELLENT song. It is very laid back and beautiful. It is what I refer to as a "midnight" song. These are songs that I love to listen to at night with all the lights off and just lying there hearing them. If that doesn't make sense, don't worry, i don't think it does to anyone else but me. Anyway, go check this one out! 02 - FOREVER - N-Trance Of course N-Trance are best known for their classic 1990's hit Set You Free (which I never heard until I went to the UK in 2000). This one is so much better. A very great dance track. Definitely worth checking out. 23 - POUNDING - The Doves The Doves have two debuts this week. The first is their current UK single and the first of the NOW songs this week. This is a great rock track and is the follow up to their number 31 hit There Goes The Fear. The only thing I have against this track is that I can't quite understand the vocals. But I bet I will get over that soon enough. 24 - SCREAMING INFEDELITIES - Dashboard Confessionals Thanks to my friends, I have heard this song a lot this week. I actually discovered it myself and then got to hear the song a lot from my friends. A good accoustic track, but probably not to the liking of everyone. 35 - CAUGHT BY THE RIVER - The Doves This one isn't quite as good as Pounding, but it's still a nice slower track. This is their current US single. Anyway, as I always say .. go check it out! 36 - I WOULD DIE 4 U - The Space Cowboy A decent remix of the Prince track that sounds modern and old at the same time. The novelty of this will probably wear off soon, but it is a decent track. Another song from the NOW CD. 37 - DON'T KNOW WHY - Norah Jones Very laid back jazzy track. VERY nice to listen to while relaxing. I have known of Norah from a while, but finally this song caught on me after seeing the video. A very nice track, should do ok on my charts. 39 - OUT OF MY HEART - BB Mak If there was one song in 2000 that I heard so much of I wanted to scream it was Back Here by BB Mak. Well the Mak are back!!! (so original!). This one is actually pretty decent and should continue to grow on me. Suprisingly I have actually started to like Back Here and it's follow up, the title of which escapes me at the moment.
