Here it is! The Oz Top 40 Countdown for the week ending July 13, 2002
As we are in the middle of the summer here, things have been kinda bland on the charts. To be honest, there haven't been that many songs that have been released lately that I have gotten very crazy about. This has helped quite a few songs out though. For example, Agnelli & Nelson continue to hold at number one for a 4th week with Everyday. This is a great song, but there really isn't much compeition out there for it to face. If this continues this week, they could have the longest consecutive chart run of the year. Tiffany also benefits by moving up 2 more spots to the runner-up position this week. I do like this song, but I don't think it's going to take much to throw this one down.
Also making big news this week is the fact that we have 8 debuts! Of last weeks 4 debuts, 3 of them fall off, and the remaining one falls back a spot. It's just that most of the songs really didn't do it for me. Of this week's debuts, I wouldn't be too surprised if a few of them fell off next week.
Enrique Iglesias takes this week's biggest mover award, repeaking at number 15 this week with Don't Turn Off The Lights. This will be the last single from his Escape album, as he is about to release a spanish album. Two songs take this weeks biggest faller award. Will Young and Cher each fall back 12 spots this week. Alive Again ties Iio's Rapture (Tastes So Sweet) record for most weeks on the countdown with 16. If Cher can last one more week, she will beat the record for the year. Chances are pretty good she will do it, but you will have to wait until next week to find out.
DEBUTS
12 - Just A Little Girl - Amy Studt This week's biggest debut comes from the UK. Amy Studt is like a 14 year old who writes her own music and whatnot (I could go look her up, but I'm not in the mood! HA!). This song is kinda like, bubble gum pop meets Alanis (sort of!). It's pretty damn catchy though. Only time will tell how high this gets.
13 - You Are The One La La La - Morten Abel I have a fellow chart club to thank this one. Morten is from Norway and this is the second single from his latest album. It's pretty poppy and might not be everyone's taste, but it's a good song nonetheless. Go to mortenabel.com if you are curious to find out more about him.
37 - This Way - Jewel This is the second single to chart from Jewel's latest album. The follow up to Standing Still, Break Me, failed to chart here, but this song hit me right away. This one hopefully will continue to rise, but only time will tell.
23 - The Day it Rained Forever - Aurora The follow up to Dreaming, The Day It Rained Forever is IMHO much better than the former. Dreaming just fell off the charts this week, but this one shouldn't. I still don't think this is a WONDERFUL song, but I do like it a lot. There is just one element missing from making this GREAT, but I don't know what it is!
32 - Let's Get It On - Lucas Prata After bubbling under for a few weeks, this cute dance song finally makes the charts. I do need to download a better version of this one though because the one I have is pretty bad. That might hurt the song in the end, but it's still a good song. Check it out!
33 - Zak And Sara - Ben Folds This one kinda came out of nowhere this week. But damn this is a great song. I have only listened to it a few times, but I really like it. It should make a move here next week, so check it out!
34 - Get Me Off - Basement Jaxx The follow up to their top 20 hit, Where's Your Head At?, Get Me Off is a pretty unique dance song. I'm really starting to like it, but it is somewhat repetitve, so that might hurt it in the end.
40 - Fly Away From Here (Graduation Day) - Dropline This one barely squeaks onto the charts this week. I don't see this one staying on next week, but I could be wrong. Oddly enough there is a SINGLE available for this one, so if you want to spend the 2 bucks go pick it up!
Well, that's all for this week folks, check back next week to see if Agnelli & Nelson can hold on to #1, or if someone else will claim the top spot!!
Until next week |
