Here it is! The Oz Top 40 Countdown for the week ending July 06, 2002
In all, it's been a rather bland week here on the Oz Top 40. Agnelli & Nelson (NOT Angelli as I had been spelling it ... OOPS!) stay at number one for a third week with their former UK top 40 hit, Everyday. If this song can stay at number one for two more weeks it will have the longest consecutive number one so far this year. Only time will tell, but there aren't really any strong contenders except for Tiffany and Monica. Tiffany moves up 7 spots this week with Open My Eyes. I really am getting into this song, but I don't know if it has got what it takes to make it to number one. Monica moves up to number 9 this week with her latest, All Eyez On Me. This one has been growing on me every day, so look for it to make another move next week.
Other then Tiffany, there aren't any new entries in the top 10. The only big move is Paulina Rubio who moves back to number 10 after spending what seemed like forever at number 4. I have been trying to get into a lot of new music lately, but nothing is compairing with what is in my top 10. So only time will tell how long this batch of songs stay here. There are a lot of good songs just outside the top 10 waiting to get in. Natalie Imbruglia holds at number 12 for a second week with Beauty On The Fire. M2M make a move in their second week up to number 13 with Don't. Marc Anthony is trying for his second top 10 hit of the year with I Need You. Will Young is also at number 15 with Light My Fire. Usuaully songs debut high on my chart and then fall, but lately it seems that many songs have been climbing to their peaks. I guess we will have to see what the fates of these songs will be.
Rounding out the top 20 this week are The Coors. Would You Be Happier makes a big move up to number 19 this week. The song is pretty decent and I am just finally starting to discover that. The song just might have enough to match the number 13 peak of When The Stars Go Blue, which moves back up to number 20 this week. Else where on the countdown, there are a few songs outside the top 20 that are bulleting. Kosheen repeaks at number 29 this week with Hungry. Also, Aurora makes a new peak at number 34 with Dreaming. The fate of this song is in jeporady, as their next single, The Day It Rained Forever debuts this week on the Bubbling Under Charts. I honestly like this song a lot more than Dreaming, but I still think it is a good song nonetheless.
Darren Hayes takes this week's biggest mover award with Falling At Your Feet. This song, which debuted and peaked at number 6 in April is getting new birth, but I doubt it will get as high as the top 10 again. From a friend in the Darren Hayes fan club, I have learned that the next US single is probably either going to be Strange Relationship or I Can't Ever Get Enough Of You. In my opinion I still think it should be Crush (1980 Me) (which I was told WILL be a single somewhere eventually -- so I feel ok charting it now.), but of the two choices I think ICEGEOY would be the better choice. I guess we will have to see how SR does in the UK this week when it is released to know if it will be the next US single. Look for Darren in the UK, as he will be touring there (and NOT the US!!).
After spending 13 weeks doing well on my chart, Brandy finally makes the plunge this week, falling back 20 spots to number 40 and taking the biggest faller award. Yet, 14 weeks is still a big feat for her to accomplish. This song should end up in the top 20 for the year. I will be doing my mid year charts here soon so I will let you know how it is doing.
DEBUTS
24 - For All Time - Soluna Soluna is a girl group and this is the title track from what I believe is their debut album. I have been hearing this song for quite some time and finally got around to liking it enough to chart it. I have heard some remixes of it, but am still liking the album version the best.
36 - You Take Me Away - Reel This is the debut (at least on my charts) for this boy band song. I am not too fond of the original version, but am charting the Groove Brothers remix instead, which makes the song sound pretty good. Worth checking out.
37 - Steve McQueen - Sheryl Crow This is the second single from Sheryl's C'mon C'mon album. I had only heard a sound clip of this song and didnt like it, but after I downloaded the entire thing, am starting to get into it. I swear the "woo woo'' parts are lifted straight from Steve Millers Take The Money And Run (anyone know what I am talking about?). I don't know if this song will have the energy to match the top 20 peak of Soak Up The Sun and that is unfortunate because I can remember the days when Sheryl Crow singles were assured top 10 placement. Well, I guess my tastes have moved on.
38 - A Little Less Conversation - Elivs Presley vs. JXL Who would have thought that in 2002, I would be charting Elvis! Well, I know I didn't, but this remix by JXL is really catchy and turns the old Elivs track into a current sounding smash. So far the song has spent 3 weeks atop the UK charts and this week debuts at number 50 on the Hot 100 and number one on the sales charts. If radio here in the US gets into this song, who knows if it will crack the top 40. I personally doubt it will, but I could be wrong. As far as its chart performance here on the Oz Top 40, time will also tell how well it does, but needless to say 2002 could be the year of a big Elivs revival just as 2000 was for the Beatles.
Well, that's all for this week folks, check back next week to see if Agnelli & Nelson can hold on to #1, or if someone else will claim the top spot!!
Until next week |
