| Here it is! The Oz Top 40 Countdown for the week ending May 25, 2002 This has been a pretty stale week here in my opinion. With starting my new 45 hr/week job, I haven't exactly in the mood to listen to music a lot. Anyway, let's get into this week's comments. X-Press 2 hold on to number one for a 4th week with their single, Lazy. This is only the third song this year to hold on to the top spot for 4 weeks (the others being Iio's Rapture and Darren Hayes's Insatiable). If they can hold on to number one for one more week, they will have the longest number one of the year so far. A number of songs are making good leaps up the countdown this week. They are lead by Jessica Folker, whose single, To Be Able To Love blasts up 22 spots to number 12. Kylie scores her third top 10 hit this year with her latest, Love At First Sight, which moves up 11 spots to number 7 this week. A-ha scores their first top 10 hit this year, moving up 9 spots to number 10 with Forever Not Yours. Angie Stone and The Coors also make big moves this week after debuting last week. Finally, Usher makes a big move, up 14 spots, with his latest, U Don't Have To Call. This week's biggest faller is last week's biggest mover. For A Lifetime by Ascension falls back 19 spots to number 34 this week. This is mainly due to all the competition in the top 20 right now. Pink also moves back 13 spots to number 22. Matt Darey and DJ Encore also move back 11 and 10 spots respectively. Kylie and Ian Van Dahl reamin longevity champs this week, but Kylie should be the sole 'Queen' next week as Will I? is very close to falling off. As you can tell I revamped my Bubbling Under Section. I think this make is more interesting to see how the songs that bubble under are doing from week to week. DEBUTS 21 - Heaven - DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do This is a remake of Bryan Adam's original. The first few times I heard it, I kinda laughed to myself thinking, "What ELSE are they are going to remake?". But after a few listens, the classic synth parts started getting to me, leading to it being this week's highest debut this week. Oddly enough, lately the debuts haven't been debuting so high as usual. Don't count out the usual number one debuts, I just haven't been listening to too much new music. 29 - A Different Kind Of Love Song - Cher Frankly I'm sick and tired of waiting for 'official' word on this being the next single. It's pretty damn obvious that it's going to be. Therefore I am charting it! Great song that will be moving up in the next few weeks. 31 - There Goes The Fear - The Doves I first discovered the Doves in the fall of 2000, although I didn't know it was them that I had discovered until this spring. When I was an exchange student in the UK, I fell in love with their song, The Man Who Sold Everything. The only problem was that I didn't know who it was. This changed this past spring when the song was featured in and episode of The Real World and was told who the group was at the end of the show. That song was a favorite of mine for so long and I still listen to it on a daily basis. Thier latest finally charts thanks to getting a good MP3 copy of it. Great song, but not as good as The Man ... Well, that's all for this week folks, check back next week to see if X-Press 2 can hold on to #1! Until next week |
