Here it is! The Oz Top 40 Countdown for the week ending May 18, 2002
Well as my summer vaction begins, things start to heat up here on the Oz Top 40. X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne reclaim the top spot this week with Lazy. The main reason I think this song is back at number one is due to NOT listening to it. It's such a great song and underexposure keeps it that way. This is the only change in the top 5, as the other songs all move back a spot to make room for the new nubmer one.
As usual there is some big movement both up and down the charts. This weeks biggest move belongs to Ascension. Their song, For A Lifetime, rockets up 21 spots to number 15 this week. This is one of many dance tracks on the countdown this week. Because of this, it might get lost in the shuffle over the next few weeks. Other big moves this week come from Sense Field, A-ha, and No Doubt. No Doubt are FINALLY starting to get somewhere with me with their latest, Hella Good. I finally got a full mp3 of the track the other week and it is starting to grow on me.
The big plungers this week are lead by 2 songs that tie for biggest faller award. Anastacia and Steve Balsamo each fall 13 spots with their latest. Kylie also makes a 10 spot dive with Tightope. There are also a few records that make a 7 spot fall this week as well. Speaking of Kylie, she and Ian Van Dahl are tied this week for the longevity award. They both have been on the countdown for 11 weeks with In Your Eyes and Will I? respectively. Only Iio and Faith Evans have had longer chart runs this year (not counting Britney's non-consecutive chart run). They both also have new hits on the countdown. Kylie's latest moves up 4 spots this week and Ian Van Dahl's latest is set to debut next week.
DEBUTS
25 - When The Stars Go Blue - The Coors feat. Bono The Coors return the countdown after a year away with their latest. The song is from their latest VH1 live album. The addition of Bono is a big help on this record, who really is a great addition to their sound. The Coors only other appearance on my chart was last year with Breathless. Irresisatable was also a personal favorite of mine at the end of 2000, but with no chart to be on, didn't chart.
26 - Wish I Didn't Miss You - Angie Stone This is the first hit for Angie on my coundtown. I really am falling for this laidback R & B track. It is usually the laidback tracks that do the best on my chart sometimes. Look for this to be a big mover next week.
36 - Make It Good - A1 This is the follow up to Caught In The Middle, which spent a single week on my chart in February but due to American exposure is making another charting attempt right now (look for it to possibly chart in the next few weeks). This is along the same lines as their previous single, a guitar driven pop song. Pretty good too if I may add. So far A1's biggest chart success is Caught, but Same Ol' Brand New You was a favorite of mine at the end of 2000 as well. Shame I wasn't doing charts back then.
37 - U Don't Have To Call - Usher The long return for Usher FINALLY comes this week. Usher's biggest charter was You Make Me Wanna, which hit number 2 in 1997. This song doesn't quite have the stamina in it to makie it that high. The song spent a number of week's bubbling under and then fell off completely. Finally this week the song makes a final push for the charts and makes it. The follow up, U-Turn, is already on the bubbling under, but probably won't chart for anytime soon.
38 - Underneath Your Clothes - Shakira Shakira's latest recharts this week due to a large amount of exposure on my local radio station and MTV/VH1. I honestly love to sing along to this one, so it might help the song out over the next few weeks. Who knows??
Well, that's all for this week folks, check back next week to see if X-Press 2 can hold on to #1!
Until next week |
