Here it is! The Oz Top 40 Countdown for the week ending April 20, 2002

Well Darren couldn't quite hold on to the top spot for a fifth week, leaving the door open for a brand new number one.  This week, the new number one (and biggest mover) comes from British Group X-Press 2.  Their latest,
Lazy, features none other than former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne.  The song is featured on NOW 51, and hit me as good on first listen.  I had no idea who David Byrne was until I read it on dotmusic last week when the song debuted at number 2 on the British charts.  How long will it stay number one?  I really don't know.

There are a bunch of big movers this week.  Right behind X-Press 2 is Daniel Bedingfield, who's first release
Gotta Get Through This shoots up 15 spots to number 2 thanks to its inclusion on NOW 51 as well.  The version I had downloaded late last year was not too pleasant.  But when I heard the latest version, I fell in LOVE!  Look for this great song to make a bid for number one next week.

The highest debut this week comes from England's (notice a pattern developing! LOL) Steve Balsamo, who from what I know, starred in
Jesus Christ Superstar.  I heard about this one from some fellow chart members, and after a few listens I liked it a lot.  Although Darren might have fallen from the top, one of its B-Side's, Falling At Your Feet, debuts at number six.  After Kylie started the trend of charting B-Sides, I am more than happy to chart this simple pop ditty.

The debut single from DJ Encore,
I See Right Through You, breaks into the top 10 at number eight this week.  At number 15 is Jamiroquai's follow-up to their top 10 smash Little L.  This is exactly in the same line and should be a decent hit.  There is, however, a LOT of competition in the middle of my chart at the moment.  This is where there are currently a LOT of big movers.  At number 16 we see that Britney is making another chart run with Overprotected.  This week she rockets up 15 notches.  Originally this song, which spent a week at number 5 in February, was in the shadow of I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman for most of it's chart life.  Now that it is the new US single, and now that it is on NOW 51, the song might even have a chance to make it back into the top 10!  Moby's latest shoots up 15 spots to number 17.  The video for We Are All Made Of Stars is GREAT.  It features everyone from Ron Jeremy to Kato Kalin.  You HAVE to see it!  Anastacia's latest also moves up 16 spots to number 19.  This track reminds me a lot of I'm Outta Love, but it is still good in it's own right.

The last debut this week comes from Zero 7.  This track isn't new though.  I first heard it last summer on
NOW 49.  But I saw the track featured on Radio & Records this week and remembered how much I liked this song, so there it is!  This week's biggest fallers are Cher, Hoobastank, and Lasgo, who fall to number 30, 29, and 21 respectively.  I have to say that these first few weeks are going to be kind of bumpy, but once I get the knack of doing a top 40, things will get a lot of smoother.

Until next week?
