Comments: Where to begin this week??? Well, we will start where we have for the last few weeks .. with ERASURE! I eagerly went out and bought "Other People's Songs" on Tuesday (in freezing rain I might add) and went home later that day and gave it a good listen. I thought it was pretty good at first, but knew it was going to grow on me. I could spend ages talking about it, but I won't bore you with that. Anyway, to make sure I got the most out of the album, I put it on tape (since the bastard wasn't released on Cassette!!!), along with selections from "Up!" by Shania Twain to be able to listen to when I work out. Needless to say, both acts see big improvements in their singles. The biggest achievement of course goes to Erasure, who debut two songs this week, including a debut at number one with the second official single off of "Other People's Songs," "Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)." The song finally knocks Coldplay's "Clocks" off the top spot after 5 weeks. Don't count coldplay out just yet though. I think they will be mainstays in the top 5 for a few more weeks to come. "Video Killed The Radio Star" also debuts this week. The album version of this song is soooo much better than the 37B mix from the "Solsubry Hill" single. Definitely worth checking out. This week, Erasure managed to log 2 songs in the top 3, 3 songs in the top 10, 4 in the top 20, and 5 in the top 25! That is quite a feat and is really putting Erasure on track to be the number one artist of 2003. Shania's inclusion on my "mix tape" also helps her out too. She currently has 3 songs on the charts this week, including the weeks' biggest mover. "C'est La Vie" rebounds up 11 spot back into the top 10 at number nine. She also re-enters with "In My Car (I'll Be The Driver)." Needless to say that Shania and Erasure both will be prospering in the upcoming weeks. Congratulations go out to Nick Carter as he breaks the record for the longest chart life of any song in the Oz Top 40 era with 19 weeks. The song, though is starting to loose steam. After Nick, Jakatta is right behind with 17 weeks, and Cyndi Lauper is right behind him with 16 weeks. So there will be a lot of long-charting songs (well on my charts anyway) in the weeks to come. Dance act Dario G debuts this week with his recent British top 40 hit, "Heaven Is Closer (Feels Like Heaven)." I'm kinda surprised that great dance songs like this barely scratch the top 40, especially when Divine Inspiration's song was a top 10 hit in the UK. They both sound hit worthy to me! Sixpence None The Richer round out the debuts this week, landing at number 40 with their cover of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over." The song, featured in the motion picture "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," is their second hit in the past few months. "Breathe Your Name" barely scratched the top 40 this past fall. Let's hope their latest can get them back on top where they belong! (Well, it probably won't happen.) Ok, that's it for this week. Oh and if you are wondering about the colors, I have decided to color-code the months for the heck of it! Enjoy! |
