Dr. Nik Rahim Nik Wajis |
|
|
My full name is Nik Rahim bin Nik Wajis. My friends call me Nik. My students and some people call me 'USTAZ' or 'DR'. My parent and my kampung people call me 'SYIHAB'. My parent changed my name, as I was told due to my health condition when I was little. In their belief, the name Nik Rahim was not suited. That was some 40 years ago but now I live a healthy life with my existing name - Nik Rahim - :o) |

Few months without job, finally I got an offer from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Joining IIUM as an Asst. Lecturer in 1990, a year later I was sent to United Kingdom to further my study. I spent 4 years at Glasgow Caledonian University, formerly know as Glasgow Polytechnic. After a lot of struggle, I finally manage to complete my thesis entitled "THE CRIME OF HIRABAH (ROBBERY) IN ISLAMIC LAW". The thesis dealt with an in depth study about the crime of robbery and other related crimes which involved the use of force and violance. |

I started my education in 1970 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Damak, Jerantut, Pahang in Malaysia. Left primary school in 1976 for Secondary school at Sekolah Menengah Ugama Dong Raub, Pahang, Malaysia. One interesting point worth noting here, I was made with no choice, which school to choose for continuing my study. My father forced me to go to only religious school or no school at all. However, I am grateful to my father for doing a right thing for me then. |

Back to IIUM in 1996, I was appointed as an Asst. Professor until I decided to leave IIUM in 1999 to have some experience working oversea. However, this time it was not as far as Egypt. Brunei was my choice. Up until I write this article, I am still in Brunei working as a Lecturer at Department of Syariah, Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Islamic Institute, University Brunei Darussalam. |

Leaving secondary school in 1980, I left for a High School situated in Pekan Pahang which takes about 4 hours driving from my home. After spending about 4 hours at Sekolah Tinggi Ugama Sultan Abu Bakar, Pekan Pahang, I left for oversea for the first time in 1984. My destination was Cairo, Egypt. The life in Egypt was totally different. Being in foreign country, made me more matured and gave me a lot of experience. After spending about two years, I decided to end my single life. I got married in 1986 with my wife who I met only ONCE! Surprise? That was the old style. Nowadays, people don't get married that way anymore. Finaly, in 1989 I completed my first degree course (B.A Hons) in Syariah (Islamic Law). Not just going home happily with a certificate in Syariah Law, I had also have two more certificates, Birth certificates of my daughter and son who were born in Egypt. |
