Class Module 3 - Class Notes
Introduction
This course is to assist you in learning collaborative strategies.  In a face to face course you would be able to practice what you are learning with your fellow classmates.  Unfortunately, you will not have the same opportunities with this type of online instruction.  You will receive a lot of information and I am sure that you will be able to utilize this information in your new profession.

The Task
Think of a school in which you have worked, either for field experience or where you have taught.  How would you describe it in terms of its being a collaborative workplace?  Identify specific examples or nonexamples that support your view.  What changes would have to occur for the school to become collaborative? (Activity 2 page 25)

Your paper need not be long or technical, one or two pages at the most. Remember to double space.

The Process

1.  Review the preface and first chapter of our textbook.  Review the resource sites.

2.  Create your paper in a standard word processing program, and then copy and paste it to an email to me.  You can attach your document if you wish.  The later is probably better but either is fine.

Resources for your quest

One of your major resources for the assignment will be your textbook.  Do not let this be your sole resource though.

1.
http://www.teachnet.org/ntpi/research/growth/dillon.htm
Policies to Enable Teacher Collaboration -- I will include for each session an article or two that will hopefully help with your quest.

2.
http://www.middleweb.com
Middle web for middle school reform

3.
http://www.nmsa.org
National Middle School Association - Topics include types of block scheduling and inclusion.

Evaluation

I will read your paper, give your credit for its submission, and offer feedback via e-mail.  This paper is worth 10 points.
