Dr. GantzStill In His Past By Mitchell Moss, MT (ASCP) My name is Dr. Gantz, and I am from the future. I was sent here to stop a time traveling assassin. While performing this task, I discovered an art that was lost from my time period. This art is called magic, and it has completely fascinated me. I am staying here a bit longer in order to learn it. I hope the temporal council does not learn that I have already completed my mission, because then they will send me back home, and I will probably be in big trouble for remaining after my mission was completed. I found a magician who has agreed to be my mentor. His name is Arthur Hughes, and he is an old magician who owns a magic theater with a magic shop in the front. I have agreed to work for him, in exchange for magic lessons, room and board. He was very happy that I did not want any money. Of course, I wont need US dollars when I return home. He quickly took a strong liking towards me, since I worked very hard, and intensely tried to learn his lessons. I spent long hours practicing during my off time. He had never before seen anybody study and practice as hard as I. Intense study is nothing new to me, since I am from planet Newton, the planet of intellect and the best technology. We are bred for intellect, and begin intense schooling at a young age. One day, I walked into the front of the theater, and heard music playing behind the curtain. I was curious, and peeked. I saw Amanda, Arthurs granddaughter and chief assistant, who was practicing her dancing. I watched her in utter fascination. In my time, most live performers have been replaced by holographic entertainment. Live entertainment can only be found in the dingiest bars. I can now see that holographic performers are no comparison to the real thing. I also realized one other thing: I think I am in love with her. As a doctor, I was always able to date beautiful women, but suddenly I did not want any of them. I only wanted Amanda. Unfortunately, I can never tell her that I am a doctor, and I will have to leave her soon as well. Suddenly, I heard the front door open, and I hid behind a cabinet. It was her boyfriend. Amanda then went into the dressing room, and changed her clothes. They left together, and my heart sank. I worked hard the next few weeks: practicing, rehearsing, tending the shop, and doing odd jobs, such as cleaning. I worked hard, and learned a lot. I also secretly watched Amanda practice her dancing every day. I had a bad feeling about her boyfriend, but I figured that it was just due to envy. I hoped that he was a good guy, since I wanted Amanda to be happy. I had to use my new skills one day during rehearsal. We were practicing the Zig Zag, when Arthur grabbed his chest, and fell to the floor. I quickly let Amanda out of the box, then palmed my medical devices. I knew that he was having a heart attack, which is an easy condition to treat in my time period. I performed the motions of CPR, while secretly using my medical devices. A few quick adjustments and he was better. Hopefully they did not see my secret. He was declared to be in good health after his arrival at the ER. He was assumed to have had a simple fainting spell. I then realized that I could have altered history, or revealed my identity. I could no longer carry my medical devices, and hid them in my bedroom. Things continued as normal, until one day I entered the magic shop, and saw two guys in dark suits, one of which was holding Arthur in the air, and slamming his body against the wall., demanding money. They dropped him, and left, saying that they would be back. I asked him what happened. He told me that they had somehow found out that he owned an original sawing box that was used by PT Selbit. It was worth a large amount of money, and they wanted it. He refused to give it to them, and did not care if they would kill him. He was an old man, and would not live much longer anyway. I spent a lot of time trying to think of a way to help him. If I was able to stop Volstra, I must be able to stop the mob as well. Somehow, I knew that this was totally different, and I would be dead if I tried, but I still had to try. |
