Xbox game review
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
One of the best games ever, if not THE best game ever.
Metal Gear Solid was the best game for the Playstation. A movie-calibur story, beautiful graphics, and flawless gameplay made this game a great buy. If there were any shortcomings in MGS, they were fixed in Metal Gear Solid 2. It has all the aspects that made MGS one of the best games of all time, only they made them better. How, you ask? Well, the only explanation I can think of is magic. Seriously though, Kojima and his team has done a great job, and deserve our respect. No, no, our worship. I beat MGS2 in about 13 hours, over a period of about 4 days. It's rare that I ever beat a game, but in 4 days, that's a first. I strongly recommend that whatever the next game was you were going to buy, forget about it and get MGS2: Substance. It came out in November for the Xbox, but it comes out in summer 2003 for the PS2 and Gamecube! Ha ha, fuck you guys! Anyway, There are over 200 VR Missions, "Snake's Tales" missions (which are incredibly difficult), which lets you go through Raiden's part of the game as Solid Snake, all in addition to the original "Sons of Liberty". There's all sorts of new stuff you can do, like when you are caught and the enemy tries to radio in for backup, you can destroy the radio. And, of course, you can hold up people and get their dog tags. Substance even has a new difficulty level, the "European Extreme", an extremely hard level previously only in the European version of MGS2. Kinda self-explainatory, eh? Overall, MGS2: Substance is the best use of your money at this time.
You can play through the VR Missions as is the Ninja. If the game got any cooler than that, you'd just die.
One of the Alternate missions is the totally rad "Bomb Disposal Mode". You freeze the C4 with the coolant to keep it from exploding.
