N64 Game Review
(NOTE: Ready 2 Rumble and Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2 are essentially the same game, so this is a review for both games)
Ready 2 Rumble is the best boxing game since the Punch Out series. Come to think of it, it's one of the
only good boxing games since the Punch Out series.
The game has 3 modes: Arcade, Champoinship and Versus, all of which are self-explanitory. Well, the Championship mode might need an explanation. So, here goes: Pick a boxer, and take him through a career, training him, fighting matches with other boxers in pursuit of championship gold.
There are plenty of boxers to choose from, a roster full of character and personality, one of the game's higher points. Such boxers as "Big" Willy Johnson (The coolest), Jet Chin, Rocket Samchay, Butcher Brown, Salua Tua, Michael Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal (Both exclusive to Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2) and the famous Afro Thunder, among others. My personal preference? Butcher Brown.
The graphics were pretty good, especially for the N64, and the sound was excellent, the voiceovers for the characters sounded great.
As for the game itself, it's just what you would expect from Midway: A fast-paced arcade-style game. Incredibly fun, but, as with all Midway games, the replay value isn't very high.
I love the first one, but unfortunately Midway shockingly decided to put Michael Jackson in the game and release it again under the name "Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2." I guess you should get it if you don't have the first one.
Whenever I see Big Willy Johnson (The one on the right for you lamers out there), it reminds me of the boxer that Conan O'Brien played on Saturday Night Live. "The Gentlemen Masher", I believe it was. He was hilarious.
This is the rope jump training in the Championship Mode. And that's me sucking at it. If you want an idea of what it's like, think of it as "Parappa the Rope Jumpper"
