Now, before I start this review, let me give you a little bit of insight as to just how stupid this game is: The main enemy's name is "Highrolla Kockamamie". Now that that's out of the way, onto the review. After an introduction explaining that Metal Gear may have been rebuilt since you destroyed it 3 years ago etc etc., you get into the pulse-pounding action. You start out in a forest, with a pistol with 40 bullets. There are helicopter type-things flying around the forest, and if they see you, (which they will becasue they're all but impossible to avoid), you can consider yourself dead. You will be practically raped by enemies. You CAN get away from them, but don't count on it happening, and don't count on not being caught again. If they don't kill you the first time, they will the second. I've never been past this part (to the best of my memory), but if this is any indication, the rest of the game probably isn't much better.
The sound and graphics are okay. Nothing to get overly excited or depressed about. They even did a decent translation this time. That totally sucks. I mean, the terrible translation of the first made it better. You and your friends laughing your asses off at "UH-OH! THE TRUCK HAVE STARTED TO MOVE!!!", but not in this game. The dialogue isn't epic, but it's not terrible enough to be made fun of from what I've seen.
It should also be noted that this is not the real Metal Gear 2. There was a Metal Gear 2 released for the MSX in Japan that is nothing like this one, and I'm pretty sure Hideo and his team did that one. Just another example of Japan's superior game market. |
