What's so different about Rainman?

Rainman has been created as an attempt to explain psychological, genetic, physiological and environmental theories of autism in straightforward language. It is not intended as a resource for professionals or students.
I have spoken to many people who want to learn more about the different theories of autism but who don't have the expert knowledge to be able to understand sites or publications that give such information. Most sites and publications I have seen that do give that sort of information use language couched in technical jargon. That is understandable as their target audience is those with specialist knowledge of the field; but for the average person they are next to useless.
In order that ordinary people may be able to better understand those specialist resources I have introduced technical terms in an easy-to-understand way. I have explained them in simple language that, hopefully, anyone will be able to understand. To further facilitate this I have provided an online dictionary. Words and terms that are in the dictionary are highlighted as links in the text. Click on the word and a window will pop up with the explanation. (click here for a demonstration)
I am hoping eventually to be able to incorporate a facility to search the site for specific words and allow the user to choose the required reference from the results. However, that will involve a lot of work and currently I am more interested in adding content to the site than providing lots of flashy bells and whistles.

How you can help Rainman

I want Rainman to be more than just an information site. I would like to include people's real-life experiences either of having autism or of caring for someone who suffers from it. As Rainman is still very new, I only currently have 1 person's account in the Stories section. I am hoping to expand this section as soon as I can. And please, if you have had bad experiences with the authorities, let me know and I will include it (however, slanderous or offensive language will be removed).
I would also like to hear your comments on the site - be they favourable or otherwise. If there is any aspect of Rainman that you think could be improved, or if there is something you think should have been included, please use either the Comments field in the survey or email me via the Contact Rainman menu option.
If you know of any good support groups, books/publications, organisations or websites, I would like to know about them also so I can include references or links here.
Although Rainman is primarily aimed at UK visitors, I would be more than happy to include information on support groups etc from other parts of the world. And, obviously, if you have a story to send me, it doesn't matter where you are from (any stories sent can be published here as anonymous if wanted).
I also want to include a visitors' page where people can post their questions, tips, little snippets of information or just have a moan. Eventually I hope to implement this as a forum, but for now it will have to be done by email.

Thank you for visiting Rainman. I hope you find this site useful and informative.
