Looking for a AR-15? Now that the Assault Weapon Ban has expired, Officers have a larger area to find what they want. Just gotta have the "original AR"? Look around, there are AR's all over the place. Many are exceptional in workmanship and in price. You don't have to buy a name to have a dependable rifle at an affordable price.
Many of the "Black Guns" (AR-15's) that are being produced come from the original specs for military contracts. After a company was done making the weapons for the contract, they had all the equiptment and experience to build on. They took the equiptment and knowledge and started making their own weapons, modifying the weapon for a more specialized purpose - Spec Forces, Government Agencies, Law Enforcement, Match Grade Competition, plinkers, etc.
The ugly "Black Gun" has gone through numerous modifications over the years. Today, there are many "Black Gun" makers out there. There are gunsmiths taking componets from each maker and designing a new weapon, for lack of a better term a "hybrid".
I had a gunsmith tell me "they are all the same on the inside, it just depends on what options and how much money you want to spend. It doesn't matter on the name on it. What matters is when it comes to the customer...what the customer wants, they can now have."
This was at a time I was having a tough time deciding on which "Black Gun" to buy. After having shot several different brands...I gotta say he's right. |
