As a young child growing up in the early 70's I used to be puzzled by the sight of the nice old gentleman who read stories on children's TV then turning up on a police series, and not being quite so nice. I used to wonder what it was that made John Slater change his mood between Jackanory and Z-Cars. More money, I suspect.
My favourite cartoon at the time was Shazaam! although it was surpassed by Scooby Doo a few years later.
