| Three years
ago we relocated to Florida. We wanted to replace the carpet in the
house we had purchased prior to moving in. Not knowing where the best
place was to buy carpet in Florida we decided why not Lowes. We have
always had good luck with them up north with different products and
they carry what we thought was a good line of carpeting. My wife found
the color she was looking for and decided on Mohawk G27 Rapture in a
Saxony. At that time this was a top of the line Mohawk carpet that
Lowes was selling. It came to approximately $15.69 per square yard and
that did not include installation. So this is not cheap carpeting we're
talking about. It's a small home and we were going to be semi retired
so let's do it right. The house was empty so it was a simple install no
furniture nothing to move. We were out of state at the time and a
friend supervised the carpet installation. We had requested that their
only be seams going into the two bedrooms. When we return to Florida
our instructions had not been followed there was an extra seam in the
hallway that we did not want. We are typically pretty easy going
decided to live with it. Initially everything looked pretty good. This
is pretty much where this story begins. The carpeting looked nice when
it was first put down, but when you vacuum there was an awful lot of
lint and few months later the carpet started to stretch. Everywhere
there was a piece of furniture, the along the walls we have waves of
carpet. We also noticed that when we vacuumed there were a couple areas
that never looked quite right. No matter which way you vacuum there was
always an area where the pattern looked as if it was going the wrong
direction the easiest way to say it is the weave looks like it's going
in two different directions. After months of calling the carpet manager
at Lowes they finally decided to come out and re-stretch. By this time
the carpeting had already been down for a year. Re-stretching helped
some but the carpeting still lint's and the funny pattern is still
there. Just a few months down the road and the carpet started to
stretch again. We have hills and valleys everywhere. After fighting
with Lowes for months the first time it seemed almost pointless to try
again. |
My wife gave
it a shot, low and behold they have a new carpet manager who actually
listen to our complaints. He wrote up a claim and had a Mohawk
representative come and look at the carpet. We thought our prayers had
been answered. How could anybody look at this stuff and not feel there
was something wrong with it. WRONG the person who came out was an
independent carpet inspector. I'm not sure what his problem was but he
did not want to be there. He did not answer any of our questions
offered no explanation of what was going on. Paid very little attention
to any of our complaints did not look at our funny pattern. He went
around with a flashlight took some notes. Took a piece of carpeting
that had never been laid and was on his way. Two weeks later Mohawk
contacted Lowes and told them there was nothing wrong with the carpet.
This is where the story pretty much ends. Lowes has decided to
re-stretch the carpet at their expense, which solves some of the
problem until its stretches again. We still have our funny pattern and
it's only three years old it no longer looks like $15.69 carpet. It's
not going to make it to the ten-year guarantee, because I'm not going
to look at it that long. Needless to say we are pretty unhappy with
both Lowes and Mohawk. Lowes is trying to make a comeback, Mohawk has
decided to do nothing. After doing some research on the Internet, I did
not have to look very far to find people who have similar experience
buying Mohawk carpet from Lowes and Home Depot. Kind of makes you
wonder what they are selling to the large home improvement stores. My
wife and I have been married for 35 years we have had wall to wall
carpet in every house we have ever owned and have never had a problem.
This
is our first experience with Mohawk. I can assure you it will be our
last. Hopefully anyone looking at this web site can learn from our
experience and save yourself the aggravation. I plan on avoiding Mohawk
products I would advise you to do the same. If your interested
