I really enjoyed all the people I worked with at DPI, and appreciate the
many friendships that grew out of my contacts. I have moved around the US
in various jobs, most recently with American Airlines. Went back to school
for another degree, and have la ded back in Iowa all by my lonesome. I currently
work as a Competitive Intelligence Specialist with Pioneer Hi-Bred in Des
Moines, and marvel at what I can do with my notebook computer versus what
was possible with an old DPI front-end. I don't have any really exciting
stories to relate. In fact selling in the plains states of Iowa and Nebraska
could get pretty mundane. One time I was pitching to a job shop mfgr. out
in the barren panhandle of Nebraska, along with one of Ray's S.E.'s. The
MIS mgr. als brought in some New York-based consultant types. The plant was
situated in a one-horse town in the land that time forgot. When the meeting
was over we went back to the Motel 6, and then to supper at the only cafe
(read restaurant) in town. The funny ighlight about the whole trip was explaining
to these Manhattan mfg. moguls what the second tallest structure in the whole
town was, a hill of raw sugar beets waiting to processed, and then explaining
to him what a sugar beet was. He packed a couple in is suitcase so he could
pull them out the next time they had show-and-tell at the yacht club.

What a joy to be hooked back into the old DPI network. It's been wonderful
to hear from so many of my pals since Bill found me again a couple of months
ago. What a lot of time has passed since the days of Sister Boogie Woman,
the Phantom, Safeway Chicke , et al. The memories grow fonder every year.
Who remembers the special Fortune cookies passed around at the Central Region
sales meeting, in special honor of The Polish Eagle? The little Chinese guys
in the Fortune cookie factory had a great time stuffing the cookies with
all those Pollack jokes!
