Durham Professional Home Day Care Inc., is a Government licensed, non-profit organization, established in 1984. We offer parents supervised child care in licensed, private homes because we believe that many children thrive in a setting that is reminiscent of home. At Durham Professional Home Day Care, we believe that we are "the next best thing to being at home"! We are licensed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, meeting the standards and following regulations set out in the Ontario Day Nurseries Act and inspected annually by a Program Advisor. We are a non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors and a paid Supervisor to take care of the day to day business.

Our staff consists of qualified Early Childhood Educators (E.C.E.'s), who are hired as Home Visitors to screen potential caregivers (Providers); provide ongoing support; meet with parents, orient them to the services provided and help select a caregiver that will best meet the families needs. Our caregivers are carefully screened. References, police and Children's Aid Society checks are done and medicals are obtained. Caregivers must be able to provide children with the type of programming that will stimulate healthy growth, physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

For many families today, both parents work full-time or part-time outside the home. Among the stresses working parents face is the need to find child care that will offer their child interesting opportunities to learn, to interact with other children yet not so structured or not so many children that individual needs can not be met. Most important, the environment must be safe and the people caring. Homes are located throughout Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa. Children are placed within the area the parents have requested. Children enrolled in the program range from six weeks to twelve years of age. Backup care is arranged by Durham Professional Home Day Care whenever possible, when the regular Caregiver is ill or on vacation. A nutritious meal and two snacks daily are supplied by the Caregiver. Parents supply food for infants and children on special diets, extra clothes and diapers.
