DJ / MUSIC PRODUCER:

Disc Jockey:

I started DJing while in highschool.  My father was a disc jockey (of the weddings and banquets variety) so I had access to equipment.  At houseparties, there was always a single CD on for an hour at a time, and I decided to make eclectic mixes of music, comedy and film out-takes to add a little variety.  This led to my first residency "Club Further" at The Vault nightclub, and the chill-out rooms of Destiny Fridays in Toronto.  Through my explosure to electronic dance music via late 80's industrial and house music, I became interested in beat-mixing (co-ordinating the different tempos of two, and later three records in a continuous mix) and then eventually approaching the DJ craft as a producer in the studio, adding effects sends into the mix for a deeper, more dynamic dance-floor experience.  Aside from music retail, this was my principle mode of regular income through the 1990's.  I held several residencies and have toured as a guest DJ throughout North America (mostly in Canada).  Having returned to my undergraduate career, and having begun life as a father, I've found less time and stamina for late-night employments.  I still collect music, but no longer pursue DJ work as I once did.  This is a state of semi-retirement, as I would accept work with the right bookings (for example, out-of-town festivals or in support of a headliner I have admiration for).

Music Producer:

Through high-school I was in two bands.  Every time we'd rent a multi-track homestudio, I'd find myself alone at night working on my own productions that were largely of an industrial or electroacoustic experimental vein.  Through the transitions made by industrial acts of the eighties into 90's electronica (ie. Richard Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire), I was drawn into the production of experimental dance-music and electronic dub.  I have worked in studio with David Yates (Definitive Recordings, London), Jeff Milligan (Revolver Recordings, Background Recordings, Bratislava), Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air, Zoviet France, Vancouver) and Ben Nevile (Telegraph Recordings, Mosaic Recordings, Context.fm, Vancouver).

My only credited release was as Dub Gnostic (co-produced with Ben Nevile) on the prestigious
Mosaic Records UK "Rhythm & Dubs" 12" compilation series.  The track was "Creston Blue."
