Some thoughts on current ski bindings: Rainey Superloop: I've been skiing this binding since 1995, and I think the new design is almost there in terms of reliability. The new riveted toe bar looks like it is indestructible. I haven't seen the new cable guides, but these are supposed to be improved also. These were the main problems I've had with this binding. It has always skied very well Black Diamond Pitbull: I tried the first iteration of this binding and it had a lot of reliability problems, though I really liked the way it skied. I later came to prefer the Superloop's adjustable pivot points. The latest version looks sturdy enough, and I still think the cable underneath the foot is the best design. Dynafit tourlite: I've never skied this binding, but I've looked at it a bit, since I'm interested in a similar mechanism for grabbing pivots on a modified telemark boot. If I were to go AT, I think I'd get it - it looks sturdy enough and it is just so much lighter than all the other models. I hate the Dynafit boot though (I found it less supportive than a T2 telemark boot) and I'd have to recommend something heavy if your fore/aft balance isn't perfect. Ramer Classic: I bought this binding mainly to do some prototyping, but I skied on it as is a fair amount also. The biggest problem with this binding by far is the fact that it is not possible to be in tour mode without using the small elevator setting. If you try to turn the elevator to the side without locking it, it will invariably come back when you hit it with the other ski. They can be quite a pain to get back on the ski after a release also, you are usually better off taking the boot out of the binding first. It is pretty hard to find this binding anymore, though you should be able to get parts for it. I'm still trying to sell mine if you are interested.
