Waner Village Theme Parks - Australia's own theme park chain! 12/7/2002  Well, its official, Warner Village theme parks is now Australia's biggest theme park chain, taking the crown from Macquarie Leisure (Owners of Dreamworld and Adventure World, Perth).  The new company is the result of the merger between Seaworld Property Trust and Village Roadshow.  The parks which are under the control of the new company are:  Seaworld, Warner Bros. Movieworld, and Wet 'n' Wild Water World.

So what does this mean to the average theme park goer?  Very little.  It now means that the 3 parks require less administration staff, and that to the outsider, Movieworld will appear to have a positive cash-flow.  Apart from that, very little has changed, and since its a very small part of Village Roadshow's income, I can't see it meaning a new park.

One rumour is that the funds generated from the parks will be used in the construction of a new Warner Brothers Studio at Robina, on the Gold Coast, since the studio at Warner Brothers Movieworld is actually a Village Roadshow studio.

A rumour going around now, is that the whole Village Warner theme parks (which is ultimately owned by AOL time Warner) will be sold to Six Flags, which also happens to be owned by AOL time Warner.  Oh Dear this is confusing, lets just hope all the Village and Warner brother's people know what there doing.

Currumbin Sanctuary reveals new $1,500,000 'Naturally Wild' attraction! 14/12/2001
Currumbin Sanctuary has announced it spend will spend $1.5million on a new exhibit, which includes reptiles and owls.  This is apparently an attempt to boast attendance at the wildlife park, which was struggling to break even this time last year.  The park hopes to attract more international tourists, and also gain a bigger share of the Gold Coast market.  The park has been struggling with attendance, which is not surprising considering that they are up against 3 of the biggest parks in Australia which may 'appear more attractive' to potential customers.  The sanctuary said that they decided against adding theme park type rides, instead focusing on education.

New $70million floating park planned!  4/02/2002

The latest project to hit Australia will be built just off Wavebreak Island, and is said to include mini-sub rides, Wave Pool, Resort style accommodation, and submarine tours.  Part of the plan is also to acquire the HMAS Brisbane (Which is destined to be sunk off the Sunshine Coast and turned into a dive site) and turn the ship into a Martine museum.

The men behind the project say that they are willing to pay the diving community
$1 million a year if they can have the ship.  They also say that they are talking to an overseas navy about acquiring a 100m submarine, should they be unable to secure the HMAS Brisbane.  The submarine would also be fitted out with a museum, and also house underwater viewing, and a pool.

No opening date has been given, but the project could become a reality soon if the purchase of the HMAS Brisbane goes through.

Construstion Begins on the Gold Coast convention Center!  13/02/2002

Some 3 years after it was announced that Jupiters Limited was to be build the Gold Coast convention center, construction has finally started, and is expected to be finished within 2 years.  Another interesting angle to this, is that the Oasis Shopping Center recently bought an unsuccesful monorail system from a shopping center in the UK, and rumours suggest they may use the extra track in extending the exsisting system to the convention center (although they may just use it for spare parts).
