"The only thing more rapid than the rapid rise, is the rapid fall.... with the possible exception of the Lethal Weapon ride at the Hollywood on the Gold Coast Peter Helliar Australia's only inverted coaster comes in the form of this Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster (SLC). It was constructed in 1995 and was the first SLC+ (or, the first SLC to feature a helix before the final brake run). Lethal Weapon has been maintained exceptionally by Village Warner, and to this day remains one of the smoothest coasters in Australia. It contains the basic SLC elements, (A sea serpent, side winder and 2 in-line twists). Apart from this, it is also exceptionally themed, with crashed cars, barking dogs, police radio playing in the background all in the station. It also contains quite a few near misses with near by buildings, fences and supports. The only bad point about this ride is that before you ride, you are required to watch a rather pointless video. Give this one a try, this is Movieworld's signature ride, and will thrill the most hardened thrill seekers. Even if you've been on SLC before, try this one out, it'll show how smooth Vekoma rides can be. How does Lethal Weapon compare? Well consider this: Lethal Weapon: Is the 4th tallest coaster in Australia (35.1) Contains the longest drop in Australia (29m) Has the most inversions on an Australian coaster (5) Is the 3rd fastest roller coaster in Australia (88.5km/h) Is the 4th longest roller coaster in Australia (661.4m) |
