Seaworld History - Now and then.

The photo on the right was taken in 1974, and shows the main lake, as it appeared when the park first opened.  To help you get some idea of what youre looking at, consider that this photo was taken from the back (Or where Seaworld Nara is now).  In the foreground is the area that would become Dolphin Cove.

Before Seaworld was built, the entire block of land was sand (no lakes).  Keith Williams was the only person to show any interest when it was put up for auction.  Many people believed that the area would NEVER be developed.  It is now among the most expensive real estate on the Gold Coast
Seaworld as it appeared in 1985.  Why does it look so strange?  Look at the thrill seeker roller coaster, and notice the land where Polar Bear Shores is now, did not exist!  Also notice how the Pirate Ship is in the area where the plaza is now.

Other interesting point, (that isn't as easily seen) is the pool at the front of the park, which is today home to Penguin Cove.  (The great thing about that is the water slides are on the back of the castle.  How wonderful it must have been to have the swimming pool and the waterslides so far apart)

Also look at the area, which is now home to the entrance to Bermuda Triangle.  What you see there are bumper boats, and where the Dolphin Nursery is, are Peddle Boats.  Finally, have a look at the strange shape of the car park.
This Picture was actually not dated, but best as I can tell, its 1971/1973.  It shows Seaworld's main (plain) entrance, and Ski Arena.  Notice how there are jet skis in Endeavour Cove?  This is because originally, Endeavour Cove was part of the Ski Lake, and boats could go in and out as they pleased.  It wasn't until the 80's that they became 2 separate lakes, which is how they remain today.  Compare with the photo below:
This is how the Endeavour Replica, Ski Arena and Main Entrance look today.  Major changes come in the form of the 'Skyway', and also major changes to the main entrance building, which now contains 'The Paradise Room' restaurant, administration, and guest relations.  The new paint job on the Endeavour also greatly changes the look of the lagoon.

Seaworld Park Overview 2001
Seaworld as it appears today from the air.  Notice the path in the middle of the park, heading back to the water park.  If you compare it to the picture above, you'll notice that the land to the right of this path was originally part of the Broadwater.

Notice the change that has taken place in the back of the park, with Dolphin Cove, and a big block of land filled in to make land for Bermuda Triangle.  All that remains of Seaworld's huge lake system is a tiny piece up the front of the park used to stage Ski Challenge.
