Went to the the Ren faire yesterday though I probably should have stayed home and finished getting better. But at least I found some fantastic additions to my home alter! I found a simple terra-cotta pot with a lid for my mundus. It was exactly what I was looking for, since the Romans, like many ancient cultures used pottery for just about everything, and it had a fitting lid. The lid is important because technically, the mundus was only "opened" two or three times a year, so I didn't want to just get an open pot as my mundus. this way I only have to open it to put in offerings. Plus, it should keep nosey puppies and kitties out of the offerings. :-)
I also found a small wall hanging to represent my household Lares. I think the image was taken from some historical art work, and I don't think it was originaly lares, but the representation to me is of a more playful and youthful lares. It depicts several naked cherub-like figures dancing and grapling, on the one on the far left is playing a flute-like instrument.
The next additions to my alter will probably come this holiday season. I plan to ask for a small statuete each of my patron deities - Apollo and Minerva.
