In reading through Drawing Down the Moon, I’ve come to the section on feminist witchcraft and feminism in neo-pagan religions.

Since recently I feel that Minerva has been clamoring for attention in my life and I’ve been ignoring her for a long time, this particular section perked my interest. I don’t really know where I stand on feminism – in or out of the pagan community. Since reading this chapter I’ve been researching things concerning feminism and women’s rights, but you can only do so much legitimate research on the internet and I don’t have time to invest in such research outside of the downtime at work. One particular subject I’ve been trying to find out more information on is the civil rights act of 1964. Apparently, from what I’ve been able to gather, this act secured voting rights not only for African Americans, but also for women. What I can’t figure out is why they have to keep voting on it every so often to keep it as a law – why can’t they just make it permanent??

More importantly, this chapter in the book has had me thinking more about goddesses, especially the one who has been trying to get my attention for so long. I’ve come to the conclusion that because of how I view the Gods and Goddesses – as family members instead of supreme beings – I’ve been rejecting having a Goddess patroness for so long because of the roll my mother played in my life. With a God it was different – not only because I was raised catholic and taught inadvertently that the One Deity was masculine, but my father was never around when I was a child, so I found it easy to look to a masculine deity that was to me as a good father aught to be. I plan to meditate on this – perhaps if I do a path work meditation to meet Minerva it would help.
