One of the best known flowers would have to be the beautiful rose.
Who doesn't love to get a bunch of long stemmed roses?
It's believed the rose originated millions of years ago
and was first discovered by the Chinese.
Plants in early gardens were grown for medicinal purposes
and the rose was no exception.

Later it became appreciated for its beauty and fragrance.
The oldest known painting of a rose was around 3500years ago,
but before that, stylised roses appeared on the floors and mouldings of banquet halls in Nineveh around 1700BC.
Can you imagine that, 1700BC, and they'd been around before then,
perhaps even in the Garden of Eden, who knows.

To date there are over 40,000 types of roses and that number is growing all the time.
They come in all colours and sizes and have been called the Queen of the flowers.
The French Empress Josephine, loved roses and after Napoleon divorced her,
she devoted herself to learning and collecting them.

Roses grow quite well where I live and I love my rose garden.
I don't have a favourite but the one pictured above is a lovely one.
As a bud its cream with pink just around the edges of the petals,
It keeps changing colour as it ages until it ends up pink all over.
How clever is that?

'And the white rose breathes of love;
O, the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.'

See how the lilies of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin.
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon, in all his splendor
Was dressed like one of these.
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,
that is here today and gone tomorrow,
Will He not much more clothe you?

Trust in the Lord of the Heaven and the Earth,
the one true God.
