| Australia Day is a National holiday celebrated with pride every 26 th January. This day in 1788 Captain Arthur Philip landed the First Fleet in New South Wales and became Govenor of the new Colony. Sir Edmund Barton became our first Prime Minister in 1901. Our Nation is young and we Australians are proud of our Country. The Australia Day Honours System awards those individuals who make outstanding contributions to their community. Each town throughout Australia holds their own celebrations with Flag raising ceremonials to start the day of rejoicing. Affirmation for all Australians As an Australian citizen I affirm my loyalty to Austraila and its people, whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights I respect, and whose laws I uphold and obey. |
