Parameters: (close this window to return to the last page you were on)
Parameters allow you to start a game with certain attributes or in a certain level. To use parameters, you will need to type the command line of the game you wish to start, followed by a space, a hyphen, and then the parameter. Some games require a parameter to activate some cheat codes
Dos:
To start 'Doom' with no gore and no monsters, you will need to be in the directory that Doom is installed in and type "doom -nogore -nomonsters" to start the game.
Windows:
To start 'Doom' with no gore and no monsters, you need to run it as above from the "run" dialogue box, or you need to create a fresh shortcut. When Windows asks you to locate Doom, click on the executable file, and add the parameters as above. It should look like this: "C:\Doom\doom.exe -nogore -nomonsters", assuming that doom is installed in the "C:\Doom" directory. When you name the shortcut, it is a good idea to include the parameters in the name so that you know you are not playing the game normally.
Shortcuts (editing): (close this window to return to the last page you were on)
To edit a shortcut, right click on it and hit properties. Find the location of the command line. You can use the browse button to find anything on your hard drive (provided that it isn't hidden), or you can type the command line directly if you know it. Typing the command line directly is useful if you want to add parameters to the program you will be using.
