WOW! It seems John has opened a major point of contension. I've been an Auction Assistant Classic/Pro owner since March of 1998, and I've recommended AA to a number of users here in the North East.

From the reaction, many of the users want the option of a replacement software package. OK! how many of you are Visual Basic 6, or Visual C++ programers? How many of you are ACCESS developers?

WELL I AM!, and you know what I'm going to do? You guessed it .... I'm going to make my own program.

If you're like me ... fearsly independent ... you can contact me at [email protected]

Dmeyer,

I am not a programmer. However, I can do simple math. Downloading AApro means downloading something around 16 million bytes. How long does it take to write that much?

All computer programes that I have ever seen have problems and are buggy sometimes. Do you really want to do all of this work? Do you think that you can succesfully sell this product? For less than AApro?

Good luck - but it sounds like you are going to be spending an awfull lot of time to save a small amount of money.

Lee

Lee,

There is a lot of Windows overhead that is included with the 16MB download. I have a fair amount of development experience and can tell you that, while this is a 3-5 developer application, a single developer CAN do it...but, only to a point...if they don't do anything else and eat LOTS of pizza and Jolt Cola! It would be best to do it as a team project.

But, the biggest problem is getting the eBay API. That is not gonna be cheap. They also require developers become certified on the API as well. This is BEFORE development begins. The only thing blocking this type of venture is start-up capital.

I have already contacted DMeyer about this and maybe something good can get started...but, I would not be too hopefull. I do feel that the SA and SA Pro are very good products with lots of established users. The only reason I would get involved in this project is because I am the type who believes there is ALWAYS a better mouse trap! And, since I have been selling on eBay I just wanted to write my own! :)

It always comes down to the $$$...

Guess What, Me too!!! I've thought about my own program for only my needs. Forget the extras and only make a program with the extras I need. If you ever need any help or have a programming question, then e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks.
