NOTES: This is a simple program that will retrieve stock quotes from Quicken. Software users should have some knowledge of Visual Basic coding and Excel Spreadhsheet usage before making changes. While limited email support may be provided, it will be done only as time permits. Use it, modify it any way you want!! This program was created using Micrsoft Excel 97 Service Release 2. I have no idea if it will work on other releases or versions of Excel. Try it and see!! This code provided herein is provided free of charge and may be used or given away freely. Basic usage: 1) This program uses Internet Explorer version 5.5 SP2 object model. As a result, you will be unable to run this application using older versions of Internet Explorer or any other browser (such as Netscape - sorry). Internet Explorer can be downloaded from Microsoft for free, if you don't already have it. 2) Enter stock symbols in column A of the spreadsheet named "stocks", beginning with cell A2 then A3, etc... 3) Do not leave empty cells, as the program will stop looking after the 1st blank cell is encountered in column A 4) If adding symbols, be sure to press enter, or otherwise make sure Excel has accepted your input, or the "Light Bulb" button cannot be pushed. 5) Press the "Light Bulb" button 6) Depending on the speed of your Internet connection and number of stock quotes being retrieved, quotes will appear in column C. 7) A file named quotes.txt is downloaded to your local PC into the same directory as this spreadsheet application. 8) quotes.txt is parsed in order to get the stock quotes. It is left on your PC in case you want to look at it using a text editor such as Notepad.exe. Each time the program is run, the older version of quotes.txt is overwritten.
