The Marcus Lafayette Ingle Log Cabin
Union Township, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma
The Marcus Lafayette Ingle Log Cabin, on the property of Ron and Denise Ingle northeast of Dover, Okla., was moved to that location and restored by Ron and eldest son Jeremy A. Ingle as a family genealogy project in 2003.

The 12' x 12' oak log cabin was originally built shortly after the 1889 Land Run by Marcus Lafayette Ingle, the brother of Ron's Great-Grandfather, and Jeremy's Great-Great Grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Ingle.

Marcus lived in the cabin until his untimely death on Oct. 31, 1908 when he died from injuries sustained while loading heavy stones from a quarry onto his wagon. The 62-year-old man had thrown a rock into the wagon when it bounced back, striking him in the abdomen and causing fatal internal injuries.

The cabin was later inhabited by Marcus' nephew Manford Ingle and his family in the 1920's and by Marcus' great nephew Virgil Ingle and his family in the 1930's.

The structure remained abandoned for nearly seven decades by the time it was saved from destruction by Ron and Jeremy in the Spring of 2003.

A severe ice storm the previous winter had caused large tree limbs to fall onto the dilapidated roof of the cabin, reducing it to little more than a pile of logs.

The then-property-owner Ira B. Mitchell told the modern Ingles that they could have the cabin on the condition that it be moved from the property.

After tagging and numbering each log and mapping out its location, the disassembled cabin was loaded onto a trailer and moved 3.75 miles to Ron's back yard where it was reconstructed during the summer of 2003.

Several new oak logs were donated for the restoration by Ron's cousin and Marcus' great-great nephew Floyd Richard Ingle.

The restoration was completed in the first week of October, 2003, in time to commemmorate the untimely death of its original builder, Marcus Lafayette Ingle.

The cabin, on private property, is available for tours. For information and directions, call:
