Special District Council Meeting - Monday, 22nd January, 2007

Christchurch, Needham Market - 7.30 pm

The District Pastoral Committee (DPC) has taken the decision to call a special District Council Meeting on 22nd January, 2007, with the sole item on the Agenda to be consideration of the paper to be sent out to Districts and local Churches by the Structures Task Group.

The Structures Task Group, considering the new structures to be put in place when Districts cease to exist in 2008, have met earlier this month and will send out a comprehensive paper for consideration at both District Council and local Church levels following a further meeting at the end of this month.  This paper should reach churches early in December.  The DPC feel that timescale does not offer sufficient time for due consideration in advance of our District Council Meeting on 11th December, and so have opted to set the date for this extra meeting, with the sole objective being to decide upon our feedback to the Structures Task Group.  I would also ask you to be mindful within your local Churches that feedback to this document must be returned to the Structures Task Group by the end of January 2007.

We are grateful to Christchurch, Needham Market, for offering to host this meeting in the sanctuary at their church.  We hope that this offers a central location for the majority of District Council Representatives to attend this extremely important meeting.  It will be essential for the Task Group to receive feedback from the full District Council Meetings, as well as the equally valuable information from individual Church Meetings.  I would also remind you that, if you are aware that you will be unable to attend on this date, your Church Meeting can elect a representative to attend on your behalf, but I must receive notice of this, through your Church Secretary, in advance of the meeting.  Any otther members of your church are welcome to attend the meeting, but will not have voting rights.

If you are not already aware of the date, I also take this opportunity to notify you of the Ordination and Induction of Mrs Samantha White to the West Suffolk Group, with principal responsibility for Cavendish, Long Melford, Sudbury and Whiting Street URCs.  This will take place at Whiting Street URC, Bury St Edmunds, at 2.30 pm on Saturday, 2nd December, 2006, and all are welcome to attend.  Please note that it is anticipated that parking will not be easy on this day, as it is a Market Day and close to Christmas, so please allow plenty of time to find parking and, perhaps, to walk a distance to the church.

With thanks and best wishes, Linda
