IIda sensei started practicing Aikido at age 16 under Sunadomari sensei in Kyushuu. Sunadomari sensei was an uchideshi of Morihea Ueshiba, the founder ofAikido, and is now the head of Manseido Aikido. For a period of time, IIda sensei traveled around Kyuushu with Sunadomari sensei doing demonstrations and spreading Aikido in Kyushu. IIda sensei then moved to Yokosuka where he practiced and taught for the Aikikai until he was awarded the title of Shihan by the Aikikai doshu Moriteru Ueshiba. With more than 50 years experience in Aikido, IIda Sensei left the Aikikai and founded Doumukai Aikido. He is a dedicated and sincere teacher who now teaches to both Americans and Japanese on the Yokosuka Navy Base and at Ootsu Middle School in Yokosuka.
