Photo Caption: Mist. Of course this is why its called canoe in the mist. This morning the mist looked different, as every morning is as unique as any other individual. Highlights today included a Broad -Winged Hawk that rattled a flock of Blue Jays as well as a Merlin who flapped along near shore. A quick side trip upstream in the Little East River required us to go over a beaver dam. We merely got out of our canoes, stood on the dam and passed our canoes over in hand-over-hand fashion. On our way back, we had to get past the beaver dam again. This time we created a channel in the middle of the dam that we could simply run the loaded canoes through! It took less than 5 minutes to create the channel. As the canoes shot through, smiles and laughter errupted from more than a few people in the group. Moral of the story: 5 minutes well spent can create a moment long remembered.
