She Takes My Breath Away As I reflect, yes long ago, On how I had surrendered to The thought that love Had surely passed me by. Until it came, that moment when All joy and hope were born again, In her sweet way She came into my life. She took my breath away! With her grace and charm, Her loveliness, And the funny things shed say. I barely could believe it, then. Still, it amazes me today. How it was as we first met, When she took my breath away. We grew in love and to understand That we would always be, Eye-to-eye and hand-in-hand Together, inseparably. The time had come, yes waited for, When we would soon be one. Face-to-face now, lifted veil With feelings, I was overcome By her angelic face with tears of joy Mere words will never say, For, amazed at how she loved me so Just took my breath away. Its time? She nods, we hurried off In apprehensive stride. A tiny one now at her breast And loved ones by her side. I marveled at the gift, so small Given us that day And of her strength and courage That, she took by breath away. Many years have passed us now Our childrens little ones now play Out by the garden as grandma tends Her perennials today. I gaze in awe amazement. And to myself I say, Her gentle ways and loveliness Still takes my breath away! Douglas Fletcher 5/03/2001 |
