Straight From the Heart With words, I struggle to describe, The things I feel down deep inside. They hang and oft get in the way Of what I really mean to say. The rational vies to hold me down. And the practical seeks to turn around Feelings from my heart that flow To spoken word, to mean it so. The words, theyre filtered in my mind, Where emotions may get left behind. By the time the words come through, The meanings lost, no longer true. Intellect, a stumbling block; For when it comes to unlock The hearts one hope and true desire, The wordy tongue catches fire! Words withheld, no friend to me, Where I stand, I want to be. True meaning is what well impart, When we speak straight from the heart. Douglas Fletcher 5/25/2001 |
