Sandwiches and Butterflies

A favorite lunchtime place, I know,
With drink and sack of food to-go,
Is in the car, out to a spot
In a shopping center parking lot.

Im sure this may sound strange to you,
So, in addition I will mention too
That adjacent to this asphalt sea,
Is an empty lot, grown up in weeds.

I park next to a stand of pines,
Close my eyes, relax my mind,
Then take a look around to see
Wildlife moving busily.

Finches, gold, in search of food,
Sparrows in a playful mood
Singing loud with song so sweet,
Above the noise of the street.

Thistle seeds like little kites
Take to the sky, begin their flights.
And butterflies on gentle wing
With grace and vivid colors bring.

Though, around this place of life and play,
New survey stakes I see today.
Now saddened thoughts again, so soon,
What progress will again consume.
