My Shadow I can see my shadow, But can my shadow see me? Wherever I go, it follows, As close as it can be. It cowers in the sunlight And hides at every turn. Dances in the candlelight, As the wick so brightly burns. It never walks away from me; More faithful than a friend. If you look close, you will see Its there through thick and thin. It has no face, hair or skin, Though is my likeness, I surmise. At times its short, pale and thin, Or dark and twenty times my size! It mocks me as I turn away, Though, beneath me when I fall. And has never failed once to display My silhouette upon the wall. Douglas Fletcher 01/11/02 |
