My Journey Home

My journey home takes me from
The city life, a joy to some.
Though, to my mind, the cars and crowd
Are way too much and a bit too loud.

Past bumpers, lights, signs and all,
Are open roads.  To me they call
To join their ever winding ways,
Beyond the noise, outside the fray.

Last exit from the freeway will find
Me turning right.  Ahead, the sign
Says Stoneybrook, twelve miles to go,
The surface rough, the way is slow.

This stretch of road holds memories.
Events and faces, still I see.
Those Ive helped along the way
And ones Ive lost...  too hard to say.

Against the pastel sunset, I see
The town which has awaited me.
One mile more, around this bend,
Will find me home, my journeys end.
