A Wolf Pup

Down near the stream where the water rushes by
there's a stick in the mud with a golden butterfly
flapping it's wings in the warm spring air
Danger is lurking but it is still unaware
Sneaking up close with a gleam in it's eye
getting ready to pounce on the poor butterfly
with a rustle of leaves and a thrust through the air
the butterfly leaves to the wolf cub's despair
with nothing to show but the mud on his fur
next time he will get it for that he is sure
There is a chirp to his left and a leap to his right
with a rush of excitement there's a frog in his sight
Starting all over getting into his stance
preparing to wade through the weeds and the plants
he picks up the scent in the warm spring air
ready to play and not having a care
