I Wonder

I lay awake and wonder
If death would come to me
As the icy rain falls down
and it does blanket me
My cheeks they feel
The cold stiff mud
That does cuddle my face
The only thought of how I feel
Is how I hate this place
The rain has been three days now
It brought it's friend the wind
I just lay and watch the puddle
as ice starts to form within
I wish I had a pillow
I wish I had a bed
And the icy rain goes on
to fill my clothes with dread
The rain it just continues
as it dances there on me
I know with every little drop
The warmth is made to leave

My body is so numb now
I can not even pee
I would do it and not move
To spread it's warmth all over me
I just stare out at the puddle
to the ice that works across
and I wonder if it feels it
as the surface heat is lost
They say that if it doesn't kill you
then it will make you strong
As I lay here feeling all of this
I know the Marine Corp couldn't be wrong
