A Father and a Dad
I have a father that I don't think of much
but I have a dad that I do miss a bunch
My father, you see is not much of a man
he has never even offered to shake my hand
I came from his blood and I did share his name
that's as far as it went which I think is lame
He came to me once when I was a week old
to ask what "it" was and to see what he mold
Then he beat my mom by the car that day
until uncle dick stopped him and kept him at bay
He walked out of my life never to see him again
but that's fine with me cause I win in the end
For I got a Dad who is much more of a man
and over the years has gained me as a fan
He was a man that came out of the blue
but gave me his name because he wanted to
We may not share blood but still to this day
he is the one that did not run away
Up through the years as I was to grow
He was the one to teach me what I know.
At times he would do things to make me so mad
but now I realize that's the course of a Dad
From weeding the garden to mowing the lawn
or bringing in wood for the stove before dawn
Now that I am older I really do understand
that it was all done to help make me a man
So I thank my Dad for he was a blessing
I could have had no one to teach me life's lessons
Now I am grown with two boys of my own
and my every heart beat tells them their not alone
I can hold up my head and be proud to say
That their father and Dad is the same to this day
For a fathers blood is just substance you see
without a Dad's heart just stagnate it would be
I thank you Dad for making mom your wife
and giving us both a huge part of your life
