Some may find that it is not cost-effective to do an installation from scratch. "Everything in the Box" Boat Kits are available that reduce Mosaic wiring to the effort of installing premade components.
A kit consists of:
A Schematic showing each sensor and its location in the boat, the routing of all cabling, and the connection of the AV-790y unit to the boat's circuitry. The schematic is then added to the boat manufacturer's information for possible future use.
Instructions that provide a step-by-step procedure for installing and testing the system, written specifically for each kit.
Sensors required for the desired installation, including door and window switches as well as motion, smoke, and high water detectors.
Cables for all of the wiring, cut to length, properly terminated, and labelled to show correct location and correct connection to both the sensor and to the Mosaic AV-790y.
Adapters and Hardware required to complete the installation.
Installing a Mosaic using a Boat Kit requires common hand tools and some skill in working with boat interiors, as some of the wiring will be placed out of sight behind panels. There is no electrical work -- cables and sensors are simply installed and connected, following the instructions and the markings at the cable ends. The saving in time and aggravation is considerable.
All boat kits feature cables with soldered connections, heat-shrunk terminations, and printed labels:
Each connection is soldered to ensure reliability in the marine environment. Each termination is reinforced and protected with heatshrink tubing. Each wire is terminated with the correct lug or sleeve.
Each cable is marked at each end with its function, and each wire within the cable is marked appropriately: The sensor end is labelled with the nomenclature that appears on the sensor terminals, and the Mosaic end is labelled with the name of each terminal on the Mosaic terminal blocks.
There is absolutely no soldering required for an installation. Sensors provided in the kit are selected according to the boat's needs -- mountable door switches are provided for fiberglass boats, but concealed switches are provided for wood joinery. When a special bit or tool is required, it is provided.
If a kit is not available for your boat, or if your boat is not a production model, then one will be created for you. This may require measurement of your boat, or of a similar model. A list of supported designs is in work.
Because of the many different boats for which the Mosaic system is suitable, the Boat Kits are made to order, and delivery takes several weeks.
