Stephanie's Pregnancy Journal 2004 & 2005

June 1, 2004 ~ For the past couple of days, I have not been able to stand Brian's smoking. The cigarettes smell like filter. My period was due 2 days ago, and although it's not uncommon for me to be a day or two (or sometimes more) late, that, and the fact that smoking is really bothering me, helped me decide to take a pregnancy test! It was POSITIVE!!

June 3, 2004~ We decided to take another pregnancy test. POSITIVE! This one turned pink MUCH faster than the first. According to my calculations, I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant! Brian is very excited, treating me like I am all fragile! He is too cute!

June 10, 2004~ We have a Doctor's appointment, to confirm our pregnancy. According to the Doc, I am due Feb. 4, 2005, but I am going with my original date as Feb. 5.....and they took thyroid tests, and did an HCG quantative, and our results will come back tomorrow!

June 11 2004 ~ The HCG results are back, and they are HIGH! Doc says perhaps I was wrong on my dates, but NOPE! Of course, my next visit next week, they will check the HCG again, to see if the levels are still high.

June 18, 2004 ~ Doc's office visit again, this one is just for blood work. They tell me that my TSH levels are high, and that I am hypothyroid. my level is 17.6

June 21, 2004 ~ I went to the Endocronologist today. They verified that I am hypothyroid. He has put me on synthroid, and will be monitoring my TSH levels. He also checked my antibody level, to see if this is Hashimoto's syndrome.

June 24, 2004 ~ The E doc called me today to tell me that my thyroid was 21 on Monday, so that he thinks I have Hashimoto's syndrome, and I should definately stay on synthroid this pg. He will be checking my levels monthly however. Hopefully this will prevent the PIH I had with my last pg. I am starting to feel bloated, like I am growing out of my clothes already. Brian & I told my Dad & Stephen on Father's day, that we were expecting again. All the kids were there, it was a nice afternoon. The morning sickness comes and goes, thank goodness it's not all the time.

July 22, 2004~ Check up with the Doc. Baby is doing well, we heard the heartbeat today, and my amniocenthesis is scheduled for August. I am not looking forward to that. Nausea with this baby, is pretty bad, but the meds for it are outrageously pricy, so I think I'll stick it out with the nausea. Brian and I are taking the kids to Disney next month, and are looking very forward to it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to ride much, but at least I'm not showing much, so perhaps I can hide it, and still ride a couple of the tamer rides. :D. We have season tickets to Kings Dominion, and I've been on a couple there, with no problem, but Disney is sounding so much more appealing! I hope the morning sickness takes a vacation too!

August 8, 2004~ I'm not sure, but I think I am feeling the baby move....I'm just barely over 14 weeks, so I guess it's possible, but I'm not completely sure. The morning sickness is still here, and if you ask me, worse the past week, then so far with the entire pregnancy. I am wearing only maternity clothes now, and some really cute fashionable stuff from pea in a pod! :D I'm looking forward to the vacation, just hope the heat and the humidity don't make me swell too bad!

September 2, 2004~ I had an amnio done on tuesday, and the results should be in within 2 weeks. They also did my AFP test then, and I have a level 2 sonogram scheduled two weeks from now. We should be getting plenty of cool pics of baby then. We did find out that it's a BOY!! Brian is very happy to be having a second son! We are pretty sure we are naming him Brian Jr. I couldn't really talk him into that name when we had Brandon, but he is all for it now. Of course, after Brandon was here, he wanted the name, but...he had already been named! lol

We came back from Disney, so we've had a busy month...and school starts next week. I do have daily headaches, and for some reason, I have a nagging pain in my left hip. Hopefully the doc will be able to diagnose it, and fix the problem!

Here is a pic of our Brian JR! at 17weeks 4 days.

September 10, 2004~Had a sonogram today, and got lot's of new baby pics! I will have to go back in a couple of weeks, for a more detailed sono, as they need a better look at Jr's cardiac function in the left ventricle. Also, they told me that Jr. is breech! Keeping my fingers crossed that he turns before we go into labor!

one of our favorite pics....his little feet! :)

September 15, 2004~ Doc's office called back, and our amnio results were normal! Also, 100% it's a boy! Still having the second sono tho.

SEptember 23, 2004~ Little Brian is moving lots now, soon his daddy will be able to feel him!! The kids are excited about having a new baby in the house, especially Brandon who is excited about having a baby brother! Brian Sr. will be taking some pics of me from now on, to show my progress thru the pregnancy, as I am 21 weeks along now! More than 1/2 way there!! :)

Stephanie (23 weeks) and big brother Brandon

October 14, 2004~ Heartburn has set in. This little man will be born with a MULLETT :D

October 26, 2004~ Another appointment, all is well. Next appointment is for the glucose tolerance test. oh JOY! I am also scheduled for a second sono in November. My thyroid is ok, no fine tuning of the meds needed so far. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

November 11, 2004~ Had my second sonogram yesterday, and baby is still breech. He weighs almost 3 pounds now. Big little stinker he is, and is doing major dancing on my bladder. I didn't think he had turned yet. :D

November 28, 2004~ we accidentally missed my last appointment, but it's rescheduled within a week, so I'll have a new update soon. My thyroid is doing well, and everything seems to be going well, except for Jr. is still Breech. We have the GTT  done soon too. I'm hoping that the doc will give us some info on this soon. I will be doing a tour of the hospital soon. We have always used the same hospital, Fairfax, and this time we will be going to a different one. It's still one of the Inova facilities, but it's a little further away.

December 1, 2004~Doc's appointment went well, Brian Jr. is still breech, and we have another sono scheduled right after Christmas. I did my GTT done today, and we are waiting to hear back about that.  Doc said that I am measuring a little large for dates, actually about 4 weeks ahead, and that he thinks this will be another 9+lbs baby. I tend to agree!! My BP is also starting to rise again....Otherwise, we are waiting to find out if Jr. moves sometime between now and our next appt, and if not, we are going to schedule tentatively a c-section. Brian and I are also getting ready to take a tour of the hospital, since I have never delivered at this one, it is new to us!

December 3, 2004 ~ I have failed my one our GTT test, and had to go back in for a 3 hour test. I have had to do this with the 3 last pregnancies too, so I'm not too worried. So far, I havn't come up with gestational diabetes, so I'm hoping that I won't this time either.

December 4, 2004~ Doc's office called while I was at work, but didn't leave a message, so I'm a little worried, that either my thyroid is way off, or I failed the GTT test yet again. That would probably mean that I have gestational diabetes, and since I am already measuring 4 weeks ahead on dates, that seems the most likely possibility.

December 6, 2004~Well, it's official, one more thing going on with this pregnancy. I have Gestational Diabetes. I am already being treated by an endocrinologist, so I will be seeing them for this as well. Guess that answers why Jr. is measuring large for dates huh?

Dec 8, 2004~ I have my glucose meeter, but not having much fun, I have to check my blood sugar several times per day, but it is never right, no matter if I measure what I'm eating or not. I'm kinda figuring on the
Doc telling me I need insulin. I have a week to get my levels correct, or insulin it is. We have a tour for the Hospital scheduled in 2 weeks also. Here is a pic of me today at 31.5 weeks.

Here I am after our tour of the Hospital today. Snowing outside and everything. 33 weeks.

Jan 2, 2005 ~ HAPPY NEW YEAR! I have a doc's appt. with the Endo doc tomorrow. I met with the dietitician last week, and we went over how often I eat, and when to take the insulin. Oh....I am now giving myself shots of insulin daily.  The doc has also lowered my synthroid a little, and I am due for another sonogram Thursday. I'm hoping that the baby has turned, but I'm not so sure he has. I've also been prescribed a heartburn releiver...and it's supposed to work for 24hrs (THANK GOD) so now I will have some relief!

Brian and I have been doing some last minute shopping for baby, and setting up all his stuff. I hope we are all ready when the time comes.

Jan 5, 2004~ ok, here's the nekkid belly, ain't HE HUGE?? this is me at 35.3 weeks along. I had a diabetes management class, and they upped my insulin to 12 units...so we will see how that works. I'm having a LOT of braxton hicks contractions now, but this time, they are VERY crampy for a few days. Hoping that the doc will have some kind of solution for that when I see them tomorrow. I also have another sono tomorrow, to determine if he is still breech, and how big he is. If I need a C-section, we will schedule it tomorrow (supposedly) oh...I am still working part time too, although, depending on how I feel at the end of the week, we may just decide this is the last week for now.

Jan 7, 2005~ We had another check up yesterday, and JR. has TURNED head first!!! YIPPEE! so that complication is out. We had a NST (Non stress test) done yesterday, and Jr. is not reacting the way the Doc wanted, his heartbeat was not elevating as it should when he moved, so we are signed up for a CST (contraction stress test) on Monday, and we had a BPP (bio physical profile) done yesterday too, with lots of sono pics, and we will have those scanned in soon.

Jr is about 7lbs already, his fluid is good, and everything is looking normal, but because of the gestational diabetes, and how big he already is, I have been scheduled for an induction 2 weeks early! WOOOOHOOO!I am currently at 2cm dialated also.

Since we have some unresolved issues with obsessed people on this site, constantly viewing us/Brian/kids, for security purposes, we don't know what they would do with the date, and info of the induction, so I am not going to be posting that here. If you have our cell phone numbers, or email, feel free to ask if you want. We will be happy to get back to you and let you know!

check back for this weeks belly pic, and sono pic!

Jan 11, 2005~ We had the contraction stress test done yesterday. Pretty simple and painless, unfortunately, it took longer than we expected. We go again next week, as well as an additional non stress test this week, at the doc's office.

My thyroid came back a little wacky this week, and I'm waiting for the endo doc to decide how he wants to treat it.

Jan 17, 2005~ We had another Contraction stress test done today, and they didn't have to give me much pitocin, as I was already having contractions on my own. The induction is still going as planned, and I'm very much looking forward to ending this pregnancy! The Doc's appointment was last Friday, and I've dialated a little more, I'm 2-3cm along now, but Jr. is now measuring 44 weeks at 37 weeks gestation. Doc is thinking that Jr is going to be over 9lbs minimum. Baby grew 4 weeks in measurement, in just one short week! Brian took some pics of me on Saturday, and we'll be uploading these soon!

Jan 25, 2005~ I'm a little late with posting this, so please forgive! :D

Brian Sr. and I were in the hospital once a week for a contraction stress test. They decided to induce me at 38 weeks, as they felt that the Gestational Diabetes was making Jr. very large. I was measuring 44 weeks at 37 weeks gestation. *note* my amniotic water level was normal, or so they said.

They induced early on the 20th, and was going fine, with the epidural, pitocin, and they broke my water (I had an abnormal amount apparently), till about 12 or so, and he was getting decels with the contractions, so they backed off on the pitocin, and actually hooked up an IV bag, and put extra fluid into the uterus, to "float" him off the cord, to stop the decels. This worked after about 2 hours.

They started the pitocin, but now the epidural wasn't working. After 2 or 3 hours of me being very uncomfortable, and getting 2 bolus of the meds in the catheter, they decided to check the epidural line iteself, only to find that it had almost come completely out. They re-inserted the epidural, and gave more meds. AAAHHHHH releif! lol

So this was about 4pm, and as soon as I relaxed, the contractions worked great, and I was feeling pressure by 4:45, and was pushing (ONCE) by 5:05, and Jr. was born!

He weighed in at 7lbs 12oz. (my smallest ever...my last 3 were 9lbs at least!) and was 20 3/4 inches long. Blond hair, blue eyes (like his daddy).

They let us go on Saturday, but releuctantly, in anticipation of the approaching snow storm. He still has jaundice, and we are still going in for daily checks of his bilirubin. Yesterday at day 4 he was over 17.

He's nursing well, loves to be swaddled, and sleeps all day! lol

oh, and as a side note, we managed to get in and out of the hospital (Fair Oaks) in Fairfax, without MOO COW finding out we were there! We were very specific about our needs with this, as she did try to start a scene when we had Brandon at Fairfax Hospital, bypassing Brian's mother at the time, and we felt that MOO COW not knowing we were there was best, especially since she works there.
