Artist Resume
- A recent trip to New York allowed
me to research and visit various museums such as El Museo Del Barrio in Spanish
Harlem, The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Metropolitan Museum, and the National
Museum of the American Indian. With support from the Arizona Commission from
the Arts I was awarded a professional development grant to research various
community art institutions in New York City.
Recently my artwork
was on exhibit at the Native American Community House Gallery in New York
City. Up until March 23 the exhibit was titled; “On The Rez”...With
25 new originals this allowed collectors on the east coast a rare opportunity
to see my work.
- In 1997 I was an Artist-In
Residence at the National Museum of The American, (NMAI) Smithsonian Institution,
New York City. While at The NMAI, I spent time researching Apache traditional
art forms such as beadwork, hide paintings, basketry, clothing and weaponry
as well as photos of Apaches from the turn of the century. This allows my
own artwork to promote and preserve a specific Apache aesthetic whose
origins can be traced through the art they left behind.
- During my recent research trip to
New York City, I shared my poetry and met with staff at El Museo Del Barrio.
A premiere museum whose focus is Puerto Rican and Latin American
art, I have been invited to return in the Spring to take part in El
Museo’s, “Family Day” in Spanish Harlem. They have requested that I
share my art and would be a “featured poet” as well.
- I attend the annual Santa
Fe Indian Market, Santa Fe New Mexico. Billed as the world’s largest Indian
market where I have won awards in various categories for my drawings of Apache
warriors, Gaan dancers and contemporary portraits of Native Americans.
