In case the link doesn't work or you just can't get to it, let me explain a little. His guest is the guy who came up with Bum Fights. I'm not going to go into what I think of this guy, I'm just going to stick to Dr. Phil here. So they start the segment with a video package about the guest like they always do, but this time Dr. Phil tells his crew to stop the video cause he finds it "despicable" and tells the guest he doesn't want to talk with him and tells him to leave the stage.
Before he leaves, he tells Dr. Phil "If you think I exploit people, every time you bring a guest on this show, you exploit them" to which Dr. Phil responds "keep telling yourself that, you can go." After security escorts the guy off the stage, Dr. Phil adresses his audience "sorry, but I just watched that footage and that is absolutely despicable and I refuse to publicize that. Clearly could not have a serious dialogue about this rediculous topic. I think what I saw on these screens is absolutely despicable, I think it's deplorable and I think it is an insult to my intelligence and those of my viewers for somebody to stand up and say 'I'm trying to help people by doing this'".
Ok, well let's take what he says at face value. It is an insult to his intelligence? If that is true, then you can't have much intelligence to begin with because you would be a moron to not be aware what was going to be presented on your show untill you step on stage and watch it along with everyone else (maybe this means he has done ZERO research for his other topics as well?). He also states that "I refuse to publicize that"? That's odd, because it looks like you just did, jerkstore. You aired the show! If I had a show and my staff "surprised" me with a topic I objected to as much as he did, the next interview I would conduct would be with new applicants to replace every position on the crew. How much do you want to bet that no one got fired?
The one good thing that came of this was how the guy got in the fact that Dr. Phil exploits his guests when they come on. If that one sentece make at least one of Dr. Phil's "fans" wake up and decide never to watch the show again, I will be happy. Oh, and hey, Dr. Phil? If you think what you do is really any better that what the Bum Fights guy does, then "keep telling yourself that".
This is why I nominate Dr. Phil the biggest douche bag of 2006. And unless an even bigger douche bag comes along (which is going to be hard to beat) probably of 2007 as well... and the year after... and the year after... and the... well, you get the point.
