"Artless grace, pure innocence, mellow joy, the pain of a tender soul - all these
the oboe can render admirably with its cantabile."
--Hector Berlioz

What is an Oboe?
..okay now you're making me mad.

The oboe is a doublereed wind instrument with usually wood
(but sometimes fancy plastic)
body and narrow conical bore. The oboe was invented in the 17th century by French
musicians,
Jean Hotteterre and Michel Philidor, who modified the louder
shawm
(an oboe ancestor) for indoor use. By 1700 most orchestras included a pair of
oboes. Early obes had seven finger holes and two keys. Over the next two centuries,
additional keys were added, making a total of 15 or more.

The oboe quite possibly is the finest instrument known to man. There is no other
instrument that can evoke such feelings and emotions as the oboe can. The finest musicians
in the world are most likely oboists, or at least acknowledge it as the greatest instrument
in the world...
hehe.

The Oboe Reed ...a litle bitty thing that croaks.
The Oboe Sound ...actual proffesionals!!

Unfinished.
