Cleaning Vents

This is often referred to as a 4-H Thing as 4-Hers are to clean the vents of their rabbit for fit and show. On the fit and show table, the judge always checks to see if the nails have been clipped, and if the vents have been cleaned.
The vents are down in the genital area of the rabbit. When you sex the rabbit, the skin part that you pull back you want to move it to the side. You will see what looks like an earwax buildup. You just take a q-tip and gently wipe this out. You then do it on the other side. Its easiest to put the rabbit on its back in-between your legs like if you were to clip it nails. When clipping my rabbits nails, this is when I clean their vents, as I already have them in the position for it.
Just to warn you, cleaning vents STINKS!!
Another warning, make sure to wash your hands in-between rabbits, especially in-between bucks. If you have the scent of cleaning another rabbits vents and reach into a bucks cage he might charge. Some breeders clean the rabbits vents right before breeding, as this makes the buck more eager to breed.
